Google Insider Talks to Project Veritas

Last week Project Veritas released an interview with former Google insider Zachary Vorhies. Vorhies used to provide leaked Google documents anonymously to Project Veritas before deciding to come out with his story.

According to Vorhies, he decided to go public after Google discovered that he was the leaker providing documents to Project Veritas. Back in June of 2019, Project Veritas published internal Google documents that was given to them by Vorhies; which gave an inside look into Google’s “algorithmic unfairness”.

After the report came out about Google’s algorithmic unfairness, Vorhies claims that he received a letter from Google with a list of demands. One of them was to give back any documents he may have retained while working for Google. The documents in his possession however, were available for all Google employees to access. Vorhies stated,

“These documents were available to every single employee within the company that was full-time. And so as a fulltime employee at the company, I just searched for some keywords and these documents started to pop up. And so once I started finding one document and started finding keywords for other documents and I would enter that in and continue this cycle until I had a treasure trove and archive of documents that clearly spelled out the system, what they’re attempting to do in very clear language.”

Once Vorhies was identified as the leaker, Google called the San Francisco Police Department to do a “wellness check” on him. Vorhies said,

“they got inside the gate, the police, and they started banging on my door … And so the police decided that they were going to call in additional forces. They called in the FBI, they called in the SWAT team. And they called the bomb squad.”

Project Veritas confirmed through the San Francisco Police, that they did receive a mental health call and responded to Vorhies’ address on that day.

Amongst the hundreds of internal Google documents that Project Veritas released, there was a few that showed how Google rates and blacklists websites. One of the files released was named, “news black list site for google now”. According to Vorhies this document shows that Google restricts certain websites from appearing on news feeds for Android Google devices. The list had progressive as well as conservative websites including, newsbusters.org and mediamatters.org. The leaked document claims that some of the sites listed with or because of a “high user block rate”.

Another recently leaked document named, “Fringe ranking/classifer(sic): Defining channel quality” shows an example of ranking news sites including CNN and FOX News.

At the end of the interview Vorhies said he is hopeful more Google employees will go public about the tech giant’s abuse of information.

“My message to those that are on the fence is I released the documents. They can go in, they can see everything that Google is doing and then they can see the scale of it. Because I think that there’s a lot of engineers that have a hint that things are wrong, but they don’t understand the colossal scale that it’s at. An so for those people, I say, look at the documents, take the pulse of America, see what’s happening and come and tell the world you know what you already know to be true.”
